To start things off, I think I'll post the first project that I really had fun with this year. Here are the final designs. It was an illustration project on the theme of superstition. The aim of the project was to focus on mixing image and text to convey the theme. Some, of course, were more successful than others.
First of all I thought I would make the images very unrefined and raw to represent how long these ideas date back, and how many of them are caused by fears.
I took great inspiration from illustrator Nicole Lawson and the way she uses the 'grunge' and 'earthy' look. The colours I used were also there to represent the darkness that can be associated with superstition and the drawings are very harsh and messy to show the lack of control that our superstitions are created to ease. To create the images I used inks and tea stains on watercolour paper, then they were edited on Illustrator + Photoshop to mix them with appropriate text.
